Wrong flowers? The evolutionary puzzle of Jongkindia (Passifloraceae s.l.), a new monotypic genus and tribe from Liberia, West Africa

Jongkindia, a small tree species endemic to local area in southeast Liberia, is described as new monotypic genus of Passifloraceae sens. lat. Its only Jongkindia mulbahii combines floral characteristics the Turneraceae and fruit s.s. (or subfamily Passifloroideae APG) can therefore be regarded occupy an isolated morphological position. This confirmed here by DNA sequence-based phylogenetic analyses including most Passifloracean genera, which places it sister Passifloroideae. Structurally appears similar that Populus, Adenia, Mitostemma, Dilkea, Passiflora pittieri, but not contain previously-described major inversions within other, more derived, plastomes.
